Heritage Academy breaks ground on early learning center in Augusta

Heritage Academy Groundbreaking

Heritage Academy in Augusta broke ground on a new early learning academy Wednesday that will serve 120 children once completed.

Heritage’s executive director and founder, Linda Tucciarone, said the academy has been in the planning process for five years. The capital campaign was $5 million, which was completed within two months. The largest gift in this campaign came from the estate of W. Rodger Giles, a local commercial real estate developer, according to a statement by spokeswoman Eva Claire Schwartz.

Beth Westergreen

Assistant Principal

Beth Westergreen began her involvement with Heritage Academy first as a volunteer and then as a substitute teacher. She joined the staff in 2008 as a kindergarten teacher, and has been the assistant principal since 2012.

Beth grew up in California, completed her undergraduate degree – focusing on early childhood education – at Miami University in Ohio, and received a Master of Education degree from North Greenville University. She married Jeff in 1991, and they have 2 grown sons.

 

Jan Hitchcock

Principal

Jan loves children and has been an educator for over 30 years. She, along with Linda Tucciarone and Phin Hitchcock, saw the need for a quality Christ-centered education for children in the downtown Augusta area. They are founders of Heritage Academy, which provides an academically rigorous and character shaping education to children for the glory of God. Jan currently serves as principal at Heritage.

 

Linda Tucciarone

Executive Director

Linda Tucciarone, along with Jan Hitchcock is the founder of Heritage Academy. Back in 1998, she felt the Holy Spirit prodding her to start a Christian school for children who might need it the most and whose parents could afford it the least.

Dr. T is a native of Brooklyn, NY, the oldest of 7 children. She attended Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (now SUNY) for undergraduate school. She received her PhD in Molecular Biology from the Medical College of Georgia. She is married has 2 children, 3 grandchildren and another on the way.
