Inner-city efforts earn former nursery owners Walton Award

Walton-Award

By Charmain Z. Brackett | The Augusta Chronicle

When Phin Hitchcock began planting vegetable gardens in housing developments in Augusta’s downtown, he had no idea he was putting down his own roots to the area.

Phin and Jan Hitchcock started Fireside Ministries in 1992 and along with Linda Tucciarone founded downtown’s Heritage Academy, a faith-based independent school primarily serving inner-city children. For their service to the community, the Hitchcocks were named AP Wealth Management’s George and Dorothy Walton winner for 2019.
